Extended features management
The management of features, component assignments, and the visual structure of the feature tree has been improved in RayPack 1.3. With full support for drag & drop operations (such as moving files to another component, rearranging features and component assignments), common tasks have become even more simple and require no additional lookup and table editing.

COM extraction and Self-registration
PackDesigner is now able to extract the COM registration from certain types of files (as a general setting on import as well as at manual demand) and store them as registration information within the component to which the target DLL file belongs to. Additionally, a new tab has been added to the file properties dialog, enabling the control of self-registration at runtime.

Run-time files and folder operations
Making file backups, removing logs, copying, renaming, and performing cleanups on installation became a trivial task with the introduction of the new unified Files and folders view. With its advanced overview all those functions are available on a per-component basis. All possible standard operations involving DuplicateFile, MoveFile, RemoveFile and CreateFolder are supported out-of-the-box. With the intuitive wizards and context menu integration, setting up complicated operations is as easy as never before.

Windows Installer Patch (MSP) generation
As an extension to the existing functionality of transform generation, any Windows Installer database (.msi) can be used as foundation for building MSP files. In RayPack 1.3, creating industry-standard format patches is straightforward and requires close to no technical knowledge. A patch can be created from two MSI files, or from quick adjustments made in the current session against the original installer database. It is a great way of deploying both: small and minor upgrades, as well as fixes to custom made, already deployed packages.
Replacing a file with a newer version has also become a straightforward task with RayPack 1.3 – simply right click a file to be replaced and select the new version. The file will be gracefully updated on save/rebuild, keeping the original structure of files, components and other connections intact.

App-V 4.6 package generation
With this release, RayPack is further extending its virtualization support, joining the already available choice of Symantec Workspace Virtualization (SWV) and Microsoft App-V 5.0 formats. Users prepare their packaging projects with the substantial feature set of PackDesigner or PackRecorder, and simply export to App-V 4.6. Clean, simple and with minimal effort.
The combination of RayPack’s broad set of handy package content manipulation and evaluation options is a simple yet powerful way of going virtual, now also for App-V 4.6 SP2.

RayPack is designed for the constitution of optimal package quality. Therefore, standard ICE validation for smoke tests regarding package resource structures is simply not enough. Not for our packagers daily business, and therefore not for RayPack as well.
Applying custom ICE validation rules on packages and packaging projects enables packaging engineers to guarantee the delivery of packages that perfectly match the quality demands of their highly specialized customers.
Since ICE rule sets may not only be added from external resources, but even configured on a per-profile basis, packagers are always only a few clicks away from the perfect quick-detection system for any of their project contexts.

CAB handling at its best
The exclusive CAB splitting / rebuilding features let you control the compression of any MSI, even from 3rd party vendors!
- Compress unpacked admin images (for example with slipstreamed patches) back to single files or back to a single files with CABs.
- Recompress the MSI – split the CABS to arbitrary size in order to save bandwidth and achieve a better performance on locations with low WAN speed.
- Control the CAB file separation level individually for each target package build.
Our capture engine is the fastest on the market. But for Raynet that is no reason at all to rest on these laurels: RayPack’s system snapshots get even more efficient by their flexible reusability, allowing users to save the snapshot to a single file containing all required meta-data. At any time in the future, users may go back and use the content of that snapshot instead of creating a new one for every repackaging task. Building up a library of snapshots saves time during both, actualrepackaging tasks as well as additional quality control investigations on package behavior.
Fumbling with special Windows Installer syntax is finally a pain of the past. RayPack is aware of your project contents: Wherever the Windows Installer technology permits, it will allow you to generate valid references and values, using responsive visual suggestion popups. This way you can easily reference properties, files, folders, or environment variables with full preview of target values which are resolved on the fly.

Packagers often have to go for the full distance, starting their job with repackaging, continuing with package design tasks and finalizing with validation and quality control. Nonetheless, there are times when a little tweak of the given resources would pretty much do the trick. RayPack would not be recommended by professional packagers if it did not contain a perfect solution for this as well – the PackTailor.
Customizing the MSI may be time consuming and error-prone if there are many options in the installation database, including but not limited to serial numbers, paths, radio selections, feature states, license agreements etc.. With PackTailor, users are able to simply select changes they want to perform for the package.
